If you are running a WordPress website and you have emails being sent out daily through a form, have you ever thought about keeping a record of those emails you are sending?

It’s one thing to know how many emails per day are being sent but what about other important information about those sent emails?

In this article, I will be discussing how email logging through the WP Mail SMTP plugin can be a benefit for you when sending emails from your website.

Why Should I Enable Email Logs:

Now you might be thinking to yourself but why would I need to keep a record of my sent emails? What would be the purpose of having these records to begin with?

Well, let me ask you this, do you have forms on your website?

Hopefully, you have answered yes to the question above because as we all know having an email list is a vital part of a website as it’s a great way to keep in constant communication with your visitors about upcoming projects, information, promotions and so much more.

Knowing how many emails your site sends out, just isn’t enough information. I mean have you ever thought about whether your subscriber received your email? How would you know if they did or didn’t if you don’t have any logs on that email?

Without logging and keeping track of all your sent emails through the WP Mail SMTP plugin, you lose a lot of this valuable information and not to mention possible leads which could turn into revenue.

Logging your emails would mean all your form notifications you receive every time a visitor fills out a form on your website are automatically being sent to the team member you have assigned and this will help you to keep track of all the leads you receive from your sent emails.

Information such as the date and time your emails are being sent, did the recipient receive that email, and if the email did not send successfully, what is the status of that email?

This is also helpful if a subscriber contacts you to ask you why they have not received an email from you after filling out a form on your website.

By using the WP Mail SMTP plugin and having all your sent emails logged, you would be able to go and view the status of that particular email and respond accordingly.

Imagine if you don’t have your sent emails logged, what would you reply to that subscriber.
Another great reason why enabling email logs through the WP Mail SMTP plugin is that you will be able to know whether your sent emails are being sent to the correct recipient.

All this extra detailed information will help you to increase your sales revenue.

You will not only know how many emails are being sent out but you will also have insight into what time of the day is the most popular time when you notice an increase in your visitors signing up to your forms.

Not just that but also what day of the week is the most popular by looking at the dates your emails have been sent out especially for new subscribers.

This information along with your other analytics data you hopefully are using can greatly help to increase your sales through your sent emails, keep track of this information in a neat and organized manner as well as save you precious time and energy trying to find your sent email details manually.

Guide To Installing, Activating, and Enabling the WP Mail SMTP plugin:

Now that we have gone through why you should enable the WP Mail SMTP plugin on your website, let’s dive into how you do just that.

1. Create a WP Mail SMTP account here.

2.Once you have created your account, and you are logged in, click the “Downloads” tab in your dashboard followed by clicking the orange button “Download WP Mail SMTP”. This will save a zipped file of the WP Mail SMTP plugin on your pc.

1.Login to your WordPress dashboard.

2.Navigate to the Plugins section and click “Add New”

3.Next to the “Add Plugins” click “Upload Plugin”. You will have the option to either drag and drop your file or if you prefer click “Choose File”. Select the zipped WP Mail SMTP file you saved earlier.

4.Once you have uploaded your zipped file, click “Install Now”

5.Once the plugin is installed, click “Activate Plugin”

Once the WP Mail SMTP Plugin is fully installed, we can go ahead and enable the WordPress email logs:

1.You should still be logged into your WordPress dashboard. If not, log in to your dashboard and navigate to the WP Mail SMTP plugin on the left menu, and click “Settings”

2.Now click the “Email Log” tab

3.On this page, you will see an option called “Enable Log”. Click the small box to enable and keep a record of every email you send from your site.

There is also a small description of the details that will be recorded in each WordPress email you send out. These details recorded include Email Status, Date and Time the email was sent, Subject Line, Recipient Email Addresses, Form Email, The number of attachments, Mail options used as well as additional content such as content type.

4.You will notice once you have enabled logs, a second option below will appear named “Log Email Content”. This setting will store the content from the emails you send out from your website but remember this content is stored as plain text in your database, not encrypted code. This setting is optional and up to personal choice.

Side Note: You do not need the “Log Email Content” enabled to keep a record of the emails you send out, it’s only if you would like to store the content of your sent emails.

5.Once you are done, click “Save Settings”

6.To view your email logs, click the “WP Mail SMTP” tab on the left menu of your dashboard, and then under settings click “Email Logs”. Here you will see a list of all your emails starting with your most recently sent email.
